Sum 41 vs. Nickelback & Avril Lavigne Halloween Costume Fight: Chad Kroeger Responds

Sum 41 singer/guitarist Deryck Whibley decided to use a Halloween party this weekend to dress up like ex-wife Avril Lavigne while his girlfriend Ari Cooper adopted the look of Lavigne's current fiance Nickelback's Chad Kroeger.

In the photo Cooper can be seen wearing a black leather jacket, a black Jack Daniels t-shirt and a goatee. The only thing a tad out of date is the hair, which seems to be longer than what Mr. Kroeger is currently sporting. Cooper is also holding a beer cup with "CHAD" written on it.

Meanwhile, Whibley is sporting a multi-colored wig and a white hoodie. It's hard to tell what is written on the front of the hoodie but it could be Hello Kitty, a brand which Lavigne has been known to wear. That, or perhaps it's a veiled shot at the age difference between the newly engaged couple as Lavigne is 28 and Kroeger will be 38 in a couple of weeks.

Whibley and Cooper's costumes seemed to have irked Kroeger.

"Hey Deryck loved the costumes! we were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes haha! -CK" Kroeger tweeted yesterday.

A subsequent tweet suggested the two couples resolve their differences in sporting competition.

"You owe us a couples bowling grudge match see you when I get back from Russia! -CK" Kroeger tweeted.

Other members of Sum 41 made no mention of the photo, nor of Kroeger's comments via Twitter. Drummer Steve Jocz was more concerned with Hurricane Sandy, which is beginning to hit the Atlantic seaboard and ruin their tour.

"Supertorm #Sandy is about to wreak havoc on the east coast just in time for our east coast tour! Mother nature is not a fan of @sum41," Jocz tweeted.

This isn't the first time Sum 41 has poked at Nickelback. As far back as 2002 the pop-punk act would occasionally cover Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" in suitably punked up and sarcastic fashion.

Sum 41 and Nickelback won't cross each other's paths for some time with Sum 41's North American trek beginning Halloween night in Indianapolis. Nickelback will be in Belarus performing Halloween night before a gig in United Arab Emirates and then a full-scale Australian tour next month. Nickelback also have a show in Tokyo in early December.
