Wolf + Lamb 'Versus': NYC House Duo Discuss New LP, Crew Love Movement & More
Kieran Behan
In keeping with the collaborative nature of their label/events, Gadi Mizrahi and Zev Eisenberg's latest effort features Wolf + Lamb-affiliated artists on six of seven tracks, including appearances by Soul Clap, Night Plane and Pillow Talk.
No longer up for free download, but finally available for purchase, Spinner spoke with Gadi and Zev about their recording process on Versus, and their Crew Love movement.
"Crew Love has been an overarching theme since Soul Clap's EFUNK album -- but really put into play for Deniz Kurtel's album, and of course for Versus," they explain. "Crew Love is the evolution of our family, not only affiliated by name, but constantly working with each other to grow, produce new sounds and evolve together."
The duo continue to describe their Crew Love movement as a creatively unified group of like-minded artists, an extension of their renowned Marcy Hotel recording studio/parties.
"At first we were all under the Wolf + Lamb umbrella, with showcases, touring and collaboration under one roof," Gadi and Zev continue. "With the launch of Double Standard, and now Soul Clap records, the family has grown to include their artists. Crew Love is the larger family encompassing everyone -- a way to keep us all together, as our artists launch labels and grow their own families in exciting new directions."
Discussing their favorite experience while recording Versus, the duo name opening track "Real Love," which features San Francisco trio Pillow Talk.
"Sending out a rough idea to Pillow Talk and having them work in that really special way where the three of them huddle, argue and tease out melodies and lyrics, was really some special," the duo explain. "Listening to them sprinkle their magic on our work was truly a memorable experience."
Wolf + Lamb's Versus is in stores now.
