Lauper's uncle, George Stathis, was found dead in his house in Queens, N.Y. after Sandy swept through the area. While performing at the Lenox Hill Hospital's Autumn Ball this week, which raised over $2 million for Sandy victims, the singer dedicated her hit "Time After Time" to him and spoke of his passing.
"I lost my Uncle George in the hurricane," Lauper shared. "He was old. He didn't want to leave his house. I was in Chicago, and I called and said [to relatives], 'Why did you guys leave him,' and they just didn't think it was going to get that bad."
Mother Nature has sure not been on Lauper's side. Today, she was forced to cancel her book signing in NYC because of a snowstorm warning. "The instore at Barnes and Noble in New Jersey is cancelled do to another big storm. Please stay safe and don't drive in it. Thanks x Cyn," she tweeted. Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir is in bookstores now.
