Guy Who Punched Out Glenn Danzig Writes Book About Hate Mail He Received
- Posted on Nov 7th 2012 5:15PM by Amy Sciarretto
When his band North Side Kings opened for the oft-surly former Misfits singer back in 2004, an altercation took place, resulting in Marianino clocking ol' Glenn and knocking him to the ground. The incident was captured on video and became a viral sensation within the punk and metal community.
The punch is remembered (fondly by Danzig haters) nearly a decade later. It's also the reason that Marianino wrote a book, Don't Ever Punch a Rockstar: A Collection of Hate Mail and Other Crazy Rumors. It turns out he is a victim of cyberbullying due to the incident, and the book sheds light on the overall epidemic.
In a chat with Vice, Marianino recalled the punch and why he penned the book.
What Spurred the Altercation? While Marianino joked that NSK ate Danzig's French onion soup and that the singer's manicurist was late, leading to his foul mood, he revealed the origins of the fight was rock star ego. "The show fell behind due to the promoter being disorganized. Glenn refused to push his time back and we, along with three other bands, were forced to play after him on the condition that he announced the other bands. He didn't announce the bands and closed the show, so we all got fucked over. I went to talk to him. He started yelling, so did I, then he put his hands on me. He pushed me into a wall and yelled 'Fuck you motherfucker!' I defended myself."
What the Cameras Didn't Catch: "He got dragged out and I was stuck answering questions with the cops because he tried to press charges on me for assault. Eventually, they asked me if I wanted to press charges and I said 'no' We packed up and left an hour later."
Why He Wrote the Book: "Imagine every time that you see your name or band online, some jerkoff loser has called you fat or gay, or said that your band sucks. The comments were hateful, mean, and surprisingly really homophobic, but so stupid it makes the whole thing pretty funny. Hopefully this book raises more awareness toward Internet bullying."
Don't Ever Punch a Rockstar: A Collection of Hate Mail and Other Crazy Rumors doesn't have a release date yet, but you can keep up with Marianino's progress at the book's Facebook page.

He is known for punching someone, not his music, so he writes a book about it to continue to exploit it and make money. Glen is not a big guy and he is up there in age, that's like me beating some guy in a nursing home then talk about how "hardcore" I am for it and paint myself as the "victim." Dude it was a 3 second ordeal almost 10 years ago, get over it and stop trying to milk it for cash. In reguards to the "onion soup", I was at that show in Austin Texas, Danzig went on stage late (which they have done ever since 1992), but Austin has a curfew nobody really knew about and pulled the plug at 10pm sharp. I saw Glenn play here in Dallas two days ago, no issues. I will probably watch Danzig play in 10 more years and north side kings still won't have a musical career and you guys will try and do a second pressing ofthis book because that is all you have accomplishedin this life, you punched an old guy years ago.
