Great Lake Swimmers, 'Hang a String of Lights' -- Song Premiere

Forget wrapped boxes under the Christmas tree or sleigh rides in the snow. For Tony Dekker, frontman of Great Lake Swimmers, the holidays are all about light. Lots and lots of light.

When it came to finding the inspiration for the Canadian group's contribution to Nettwerk Music Group's yearly yuletide project, Dekker looked back on Christmases past.

"When I was younger I remember the sense of wonder at seeing trees and things decorated and all lit up around the holiday season," he tells Spinner. "I still have a wave of childlike delight seeing the lights every year, and had a lot of fun putting this song together with that in mind."

In a move as green as the Christmas tree you'll be hanging all of those strings of lights on, Dekker asks the world to be mindful of conserving energy.

"I'd also like to temper that sentiment by saying that although the holidays can be a time of excess, we can all easily find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle around this time of year," Dekker adds. "That includes hanging strings of energy efficient lights!"
