Wayne Coyne Grenade Incident: Airport Shut Down Over Singer's Explosive

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne is a crazy man. His latest act of weirdness? Allegedly brining a grenade (either real or fake, but definitely not live) to Oklahoma City's Will Rogers Airport last week in hopes of taking it to his final destination.

If you've ever traveled before, you'll know that the TSA wouldn't be too thrilled with the prospect of said incendiary device making its way across America in an aircraft. According to The Lost Ogle (via Diffuser), Coyne's bag was seized and searched by security officials when the grenade was found inside.

This, in turn, shut down the airport and made a whole lot of people late for their flights. So Coyne did what anyone would do: He took to Twitter to apologize.

"Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced because of my grenade at OKC airport!!" he writes, attaching a photo of himself peace-signing in the airport.

Fuse has posted the official police report, citing Coyne for the potential bomb scare. According to OKC police, the Lips' frontman "was given [the grenade] at a party in Arkansas on November 4, 2012. He advised it was a grenade but said it was dead and was painted." A bomb unit further conferred that Coyne's toy was a dud. He was then released and cleared to go.

Still. A grenade? Come on, Wayne.

UPDATE: Coyne has since spoken to Pitchfork about this explosive saga.

"The truth is unfortunately boring," he says, then referencing a wild house show he experienced the night before the flight, "you know, pot and booze and drugs and people playing music until six o'clock in the morning."

Coyne says he picked up a "non-explodable" grenade at the party and took it with him. "It was an actual grenade that was now missing its explosive parts and painted gold. I just threw this gold grenade in my bag and had not quite thought about it."

Maybe next time, he'll think about it.

Never bring a grenade to an airport, but always to a gunfight.

There is NO WAY that I believe this MORON didn't know that TSA would freak out over this.
Especially when being a member of a nationally known band that flys and uses airports on a regular basis.
What I DO believe, is that he was ARROGANT enough to believe that HE could get away with it. He should have to pay the delay costs.

He should be in jail. He should also have to pay all the costs involved in this fiasco.
Old enough to know better, old enough to take his punishment. "Sooory" doesn't cut it.

And he thinks apologizing on Twitter makes it ok? I can't think of the most accurate word to call him. Even making a threat that you have a bomb, even though you actually don't, will get you thrown in jail, and that where this so called person should be!
