This Week in Music History: December 2 - 8 -- John Lennon Shot, Stones Stabbing, Zeppelin Goes Down

Lennon's song was outwardly about religion, but it could just as well have been applied to the principles of peace and love, which were basically stabbed to death a year earlier at a Rolling Stones concert.
It turns out December really sucks for this kind of thing. Not only did Roy Orbison and Frank Zappa die this week, but a couple other important musicians lost their lives as well.

I believe people were so shocked we all wanted to feel that oneness again so we all went into the streets to try to be one again or to believe that it really happened Our world cahanged that day,and we will never forget ,JOHN LENNON , PEACE.
January 14 2013 at 4:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThirty-two years ago tonight. Can it be? Where does the time go? I can remember the evening that John Lennon died as if it were yesterday. Nothing is real.
Someone I know who was born thirteen years after John was so brutally forced from our midst once asked me how long it took me to get over his death.
"I never got over it" was my answer.
I never will. December 8, 1980 broke my heart.
Usually when a famous person passes on, we may pause and reflect for a minute or two on that person's life and career, and then we move on. We can admire the performance of a long-dead James Dean in the film "Giant" and think not a thing about his absence from our lives. That's not the case in this instance.
I sure do miss John Lennon.
