Slash wrote on his Twitter page, "Sad day; spiritual, cultural & music legend, Ravi Shankar dead at 92. RIP." Lang also took to Twitter to express her sadness, writing "Ravi Shankar ... May you have a swift and positive rebirth. Thanks for being a musical ambassador."
After gaining widespread notoriety for hanging with The Beatles during the 1960s, Shankar became something of a hippie musical emblem, bringing his sitar playing and a revitalized interest in world music to American and greater Western culture.
Shankar is also the father of blues and jazz singer Norah Jones, who has yet to comment publicly on his passing. The Indian community is mourning Shankar's death profusely, including Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and statements from the Prime Minister and the President.
