Foster the People's 'Pumped Up Kicks' Removed From Radio After Sandy Hook Shooting

As the band's frontman Mark Foster told Spinner back in 2011, the hit song is actually about a kid planning a school shooting and features the chorus, "you better run, better run, faster than my bullet."
"'Pumped Up Kicks' is about a kid that basically is losing his mind and is plotting revenge," Foster said. "He's an outcast. I feel like the youth in our culture are becoming more and more isolated. It's kind of an epidemic. Instead of writing about victims and some tragedy, I wanted to get into the killer's mind, like Truman Capote did in In Cold Blood."
In the wake of the massacre, Foster has been constantly tweeting his thoughts on gun control and mental-health issues. Meanwhile, pop star Ke$ha's song "Die Young" has also been removed from many radio stations. She claims she was forced to sing the lyrics but that has yet to be confirmed. She issued an apology via Twitter and sent thoughts and prayers to the victims.

FORTUNATELY I don't think the kids pay attention to the words in this song as much as the catchy tune. My daughter didn't know, until I told her what they were saying and that's why I didn't like the song.

December 19 2012 at 7:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm sure Kesha is being forced to take the money the recording is making. It's an inane live for the moment pop song targeted at young'uns who'll forget about it when the next pop princess cranks out a new ditty.
December 19 2012 at 6:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't like these types of songs. I won't listen to them. But, I believe in freedom of speech. When we drive this stuff undergound, that's when we will have a problem.
