That's not to say 2012 wasn't somewhat busy for the Montreal indie-rock band. The group ventured down to Haiti to assist those still coping with the devastating 2010 earthquake and played a low-key concert there. Then there was the contribution of "Horn of Plenty" and "Abraham's Daughter" to the motion picture The Hunger Games. And more recently Arcade Fire played an exclusive gig under the alias Les Identiks where new songs were performed but no recordings or video were leaked online.
So while some groups religiously tweet or update fans about their studio creations, the silence from Arcade Fire has only heightened the speculation of what's to come and the content of the material. Heck the band's last tweet was contest info on designing a t-shirt back on Nov. 14, so don't expect multiple diaries entries on their site.
