According to a Facebook post on Friday, Plaskett announced he received the "new commemorative medal" marking the 60th anniversary of the Queen's "accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada."
The statement added that while honoring the Queen the medal -- which will be bestowed on some 60,000 Canadians -- also "serves to honor significant contributions and achievements by Canadians."
Plaskett -- who said he was honored to receive the honor -- posted a photo of the medal on Twitter, which shows the Queen's head with "Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina" and "Canada" etched around the perimeter of the medal's front.
The musician wrapped up a five-night stand at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern just before Christmas in support of his album Scrappy Happiness. The singer is playing three nights in Halifax in February with noted author Stuart McLean as part of McLean's Vinyl Cafe tour.
