Hello Echo, 'Why Are We Waiting' -- Video of the Day

Artist: Hello Echo
Video: "Why Are We Waiting"
Highlight: "A few years ago I was working a staff job and after a while I got completely sick of it," Sean Aylward tells Spinner. "It was a fine job but it grew monotonous and I wrote a few songs about my 9 to 5 hatred and general out-of-place feeling. 'Why are we waiting' is one of them.
I really wanted to do a claymation music video for Hello Echo, but I also knew that claymation is a slow process, so I chose our shortest song and a manageable concept with only two shots and setups, but still it took forever. Every aspect of this video took longer than expected, a humbling experience in time management, from building all the art and props, to setting up the scenes with lights and backgrounds, to actually animating the video, which took the longest of course.
"A long time ago I made a music video for a friend's band and did a claymation scene with no knowledge of how it's done professionally, it was much cruder than this video (which is admittedly pretty crude and homemade feeling). On this basis of this old clip I tried to get hired as an animator on Adult Swim's 'Robot Chicken.' When they declined (basically laughing at the poor quality of my improvised claymation) I asked if I could intern. I wasn't in college or anything, so they basically let me hang out and learn how to make stop motion movies by building character armatures (skeletons) and assisting animators on the little stages. Those people were awesome, and this video applies lots of what I learned there."
