Hail From: Brooklyn/Philadelphia
Song: 'This Is Manhattan'
Album: We Will Never Be Discovered [iTunes] [Amazon]
Sounds Like: Jonathan Richman, Clem Snide
In Their Words: "'This is Manhattan" is about how I think a couple of Depression-era vagabonds might have reacted when first setting eyes on New York City. The miles of streets. The teeming tenements. The skyscrapers. The grimy East River. 'Holy shit, this is Manhattan!' I don't know if that expression was part of the vernacular of the time, but neither was indie pop so I think it's cool. Fun fact: The first version of the song was called, 'This is Secaucus,' but it didn't really have quite the same ring to it." -- Singer
