We lost a grammy winning musical genius in May of 2012 who was not remembered in the grammy awards ceremony. He recorded rockabilly hits in the early 60s and appeared on Dick Clark's American Band Stand. A Couple of those hits were The Great Pumpkin in 1961 and The Masked Man in 1960.
After rockabilly had begun losing its popularity due to the british rock invasion of The Beatles and so on...., he returned to his roots which was the polish american polka. He modernized the polka while keeping its ethnic value. This inspired many young musicians and attracted many fans who were normally stuck in the typical stereo mentality of their perception of a polka. In the 80s when there was a polka category grammy award, he was nominated several times and won a grammy in '87.
During his rockabilly years, he was known as Eddy Bell, and his band was Eddy Bell and the Bel-Aires. During his polka years, he was know by his real name Eddie Blazonczyk, and his band was Eddie Blazonczyk and the Versatones.
