SSION, 'Luvvbazaar' -- Video of the Day
- Posted on Feb 11th 2013 6:00PM by Shawnee Brew
Artist: SSION
Video: 'Luvvbazaar'
Highlight: "Originally Mitch Moore (co-director) and I set out to make a very "real" club video but after reviewing the footage we decided it needed to be conceptually screwed with," Cody Critcheloe tells Spinner. "The thought of putting out a video about partying in the club seemed so boring and overdone to me ... besides I don't give a shit about being 'real' and that's what makes SSION real."
All of the black and white club scenes were shot in Brooklyn at this club called Sugarhill Disco. The drugstore scene was shot at various CVS locations around midtown Manhattan. We would sneak in, shoot for a bit and eventually get kicked out because you're not allowed to film in there. I love this scene in the video because it pokes fun at NYC club life. I feel like it's the most accurate portrayal of NYC. The black and white footage is all play, an illusion of what some kid from the Midwest or wherever thinks NYC is going to be like when the reality is CVS or Duane Reade or Sephora."
"The drag queen singing in the video is actually the dude singing on the track. His name is Christopher Barksdale-Burns. He is really talented. I met him in Kansas City at a drag show. All the queens lip sync'd except for him. He came back to my house and sang on the record. I went back to Kansas City and shot him performing the song. The two girls in the video are also from Kansas City and have appeared in a lot of my videos. they are both really cool and were obsessed with Marilyn Manson. Now they are obsessed with SSION."
