Japandroids Song Beats Nickelback to Become New Vancouver Canucks Entrance Music

Vancouver rock duo Japandroids have edged out Nickelback and other bands in a contest put on by the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks to determine the team's new entrance music.

The band's song "The House That Heaven Built" will be played when the Canucks come onto the ice for two home games, replacing the previous tune used by hockey-challenged Irish quartet U2 and their song "Where The Streets Have No Name." Japandroids beat out Nickelback, Volbeat and Guns N' Roses among others for the claim to fame.

"There it is!" the team tweeted yesterday. "@Japandroids won Project NU2 - and by a long shot. #Canucks."

That said, given the Canucks' recent Stanley Cup playoff woes, Eric Clapton's "River of Tears" or Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict a Riot" might have been more apt.

The band posted a 38-second YouTube clip this afternoon on their Facebook page showing the Canucks coming out to the song. The song, found on the band's 2012 album Celebration Rock, will be heard again on March 2 when the Canucks play host to the defending Stanley Cup champs Los Angeles Kings.
