DJ Ajax Dead: Prominent Australian DJ Dies in Melbourne Car Accident
The prominent DJ, born Adrian Thomas, made his name as part of the Modular Records-signed electro crew Bang Gang, with whom he recorded Ministry of Sound Mashed 2. He went on to found management company and label Sweat it Out, which boasted artists Yolanda Be Cool and D CUP (of "We No Speak Americano" fame), Rufus and Oh Snap.
"It's believed the man ran in front of the north-bound truck on College Crescent shortly before 1am. He died at the scene," a police spokeswoman said.
Ajax was twice voted Australia's top DJ by Technics in the Mix, and was greatly loved by his peers.
"RIP to Ajax, my thoughts are with all the Australian homies, I can't believe this. Such a warm and generous dude, a real leader," tweeted A-Trak. "If you're a DJ and you ever toured Australia chances are you knew Ajax, he was like the ambassador."
