Michelle Shocked Launches Homophobic Rant at San Francisco Concert

Stealing a page from comedian Michael Richards' audience alienation handbook, folk-pop singer Michelle Shocked launched into a homophobic rant at a San Francisco club Sunday evening.

According to Meow Online, Shocked was playing Yoshi's when she went on an anti-gay tirade during her second set, concluding the rant by quipping, "You can go on Twitter and say 'Michelle Shocked says God hates fags.'"

"Eerie foreshadowing at Michelle Shocked show," Matt Penfield tweeted live during the Shocked performance. "before the show she talked about how 'people seem like your friends then they turn on you.'"

Penfield later added that her first set was "all cool" but the second set is where she "went full hate speech" while later tweeting that it was, "Totally sincere. Super anti-gay and hateful."

Shocked's most recent tweet was, "Truth is leading to painful confrontation #shortsharpshocked." It seems many people left the venue during her speech but no video has yet to emerge of it.

"no irony," "@anile02" tweeted. "She said she lives in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry."

In a recent YouTube clip revealing her upcoming projects, Shocked spoke of performing with her brother Max "like Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker" while chatting via video conference with her father. She also spoke of having a stylist for the upcoming trek dubbed Roadworks 2013: 25 Years of Short Sharp Shocked.

Queerty reports Shocked is a born-again Christian. In a 2008 interview she said "homosexuality is no more less a sin than fornication. And I'm a fornicator with a capital F."

In a strange twist, in 2005 Shocked released a Threesome package featuring three studio albums, one of which was titled "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" regarding the issue of gays in the U.S. military.
