Steadily building a healthy buzz since the release of their full length album, 'In the Wooded Forest,' Brooklyn duo Savoir Adore were noted by many as one of this year's hottest artists to watch at SXSW. The band showcases the strength of two talented songwriters, Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro, who craft lush, dreamy indie pop fronted by Muro's jazzy vocals.

During their stop at AOL's SXSW artist booth, the pair talked about first coming together as students at NYU. "It was about meeting like minded people in that space," Muro told Spinner. "Part of going to NYU that's so important is being part of the New York community. I think throwing ourselves into that scene immediately helped us," Hammer added.
This week indie rockers Screaming Females have been treating Austin crowds to their unique brand of high energy punk at SXSW. The New Jersey trio gained a healthy dose of industry buzz after releasing 2010's 'Castle Talk,' and now the band is gearing up to begin the writing process for their much-anticipated fifth release.

During a stop by our SXSW studio, frontwoman Marisa Paternoster reassured any fans worried that they might be radically changing their beloved sound. "We're not gonna like, bring in a synthesizer or anything," she told Spinner. "I'm not ever going to allow a laptop on stage."
Neatly coinciding with the March 15th release of their new album 'Michel Poiccard,' Australian trio the Death Set have been bringing their spastic punk rock energy to crowds at this year's SXSW. It has been a whirlwind week for the band, who arrived in Austin on half an hour of sleep and a bottle of vodka, but the guys managed to find time to stop by our studio for a chat after a much-buzzed-about performance.

"It's been a crazy time," frontman Johnny Siera told Spinner of the festivities around the album release. "It's a different record for us ... we didn't want to be a lo-fi band anymore. Not that I don't like lo-fi music, it's just that we didn't want to be put in that sort of category. It seems like it's a little saturated."
In the song's video, which features pixelated,_thumbnail.GIF-style animation and a number of visual nods to gadgets and social networks, the iconic vocalist highlights the disconnect between humans that tech often causes.

"It's a mixed bag. It's good for mass communication, as we see in Egypt," Styrene tells Spinner. "But maybe on a personal level, people don't see each other so much socially and sometimes they end relationships by text or e-mail. I don't think that's so cool."

Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood sits down for a candid chat and a heartfelt acoustic performance of 'Thanksgiving Filter' in the latest installment of the band's 'Go-Go Boots Episodes.' Though the song's characters are "mostly fictional," according to Hood, the themes still hit home for the frontman, who discusses the difficulties of balancing family obligations with touring and writing new material.

The videos have a low-key, intimate feel, but the experience of shooting them was not as carefree as it may seem. "We filmed at my house and my neighborhood is very noisy. We contended with sirens, thunder, a phone in the other room that never rings, but decided to ring at the end of every take," Hood tells Spinner. "I think my annoyance from the interruptions added to the intensity of the performance. I always sing better when I'm about to rip something off the wall."

Musician and composer Ben Lovett is no stranger to writing for film -- his award-winning work has been featured in 'The Signal' and 'The Last Goodbye' starring Faye Dunaway, to name a few -- but for 'Eye of the Storm,' it was Lovett who hired a filmmaker to bring his work to life. Director Christopher Alender used state-of-the-art special effects on a shoestring budget for the video, and the result is an eye-popping work that resembles a steampunk take on Frank Miller's 'Sin City' set to Lovett's haunting, acoustic-based song.

In the visually inventive new video for 'Expanding Anyway,' the title track off of Morning Teleportation's forthcoming debut album, viewers are sent soaring through an unending vortex of psychedelic imagery. "The concept was to fly through dimensional portals," vocalist Tiger Merritt tells Spinner, "and to meet creates inhabiting these various realities all at breakneck speed." The result is a mesmerizing acid trip of a video directed by Phantamic (Tripp and Jenna Watt), featuring handmade drawings, colorful stop-motion animation and brief glimpses of live-action.

"The song was inspired by people and fantastical anstronomical events," Merritt explains. Musically, the tune is a nice showcase for the band's frenetic energy and spaced-out finger-picked guitar lines (some credit is due to producer Isaac Brock, who helmed the album and signed the band to his Glacial Place label).
French indie rockers Tahiti 80 apparently were paying attention back in Sunday school class, as evidenced by their biblical new video for 'Darlin' (Adam & Eve Song).' Last week we unveiled three clips from Matisyahu's forthcoming DVD, 'Live at Stubb's Volume II,' a combination of candid tour footage and interviews with Matis on art and spirituality.

In the latest clip, the Hasidic reggae artist continues to sing the praises of his backing band, Brooklyn's Dub Trio. "Here we speak about the importance of improvisation in our music," Matisyahu tells Spinner. "The band and I each try to explain our sound and what it is that we are doing when we create."

All this week Spinner has been rolling out exclusive footage from Matisyahu's upcoming DVD 'Live at Stubb's Volume II.' In the past two installments, the reggae artist addressed his musical upbringing and introduced viewers to his touring band, Dub Trio. In the latest clip, Matisyahu addresses the role of Judaism in his music and the public perception of him as a religious reggae musician.

Bristol duo Malachai head underground in their eerie new video for 'Let Em Fall.' Filmed entirely in front of a greenscreen, the final product puts on avant-garde spin on what appears to be security camera footage of a subway track. According to Malachai vocalist Gee, "I wanted that dungeon feel, that restricted, brick-in tunnelvision."

The video's quick edits and disturbing imagery illustrate what Gee describes as the "sentiment of the song's chorus," which he describes to Spinner as "Greed versus moderation. The mask is my mischievous side and through the 'Let Em Fall' video I battle with it for control of myself."

In yesterday's clip, Matis spoke candidly about his experiences as a budding musician, experimenting with LSD and following Phish on tour. Good news for Matisyahu fans: this week, Spinner will be rolling out exclusive clips from the Hasidic reggae musician's forthcoming live DVD, 'Live at Stubb's Volume II.' The sequel to the live album that helped put Matis on the map in 2005, this return to the famed Austin venue features high-energy performances alongside candid documentary footage.

In the first clip, Matisyahu doesn't shy away from his music's religious themes, sharing the spotlight with his own children for an onstage Jewish ritual. "The vibe is strong and my kids are saying the kabbalistic meditation into the microphones like we practiced all summer on tour together," he tells Spinner. "The words are, 'When it arose in his mind to create the world, he withdrew his light and created a great void and the world dances in the void surrounded by his light.'"
Surrounded by identically sweater-clad young men, Keren Ann maintains emotionally detached eye contact with the camera throughout her new clip for 'My Name Is Trouble.' Like a forgotten model from the 'Addicted to Love' video, it's the perfect visual accompaniment to Ann's hushed, seductive tune, courtesy of director Benjamin Seroussi.

"I was looking to create a robotic-yet-feminine atmosphere with a modern choreography (one that I am able to follow not being the greatest dancer of all times)," Ann tells Spinner. "The dress by Alexandre Vauthier is very important. The director, Benjamin Seroussi, has his own true sense of aesthetics. I wanted a blend of architecture and motion with a twist of a religious cult."
Stockholm's Those Dancing Days have been generating a healthy dose of industry buzz recently for their signature brand of high-energy indie pop. The all-girl quintet shows off their airtight rhythm section and knack for catchy melodies on 'I'll Be Yours,' an infectious tune awash in dreamy synths and other nods to New Wave, courtesy of producer -- and Robyn collaborater -- Patrik Berger.

"It is a song about friendship you can't live without," guitarist Rebecka Rolfart tells Spinner. "The kind that lasts forever and that you'll do anything for."
