To say the members of Aerosmith have a contentious relationship is not breaking news, but fans may have been shocked at just how tense things can get between the legendary rockers.

CBS news profiled the band for '60 Minutes' (as reported by our counterparts at Noisecreep),
allowing journalist Lara Logan special access to each member. She also traveled with the band on their recent South American tour, capturing live show footage for the piece.

Other than brief mentions of the band's 40 years together, drug abuse and success, most of the piece focused on lead singer Steven Tyler and his relationship with the rest of the band.

"He wouldn't be on that show if he wasn't in the band, being part of Aerosmith," guitarist Joe Perry said when asked about Tyler's position as a judge on 'American Idol.'

While most reporters who interview Tyler end up focusing solely on his 'American Idol' gig, Logan resisted, instead focusing more on the intricate emotions of each band member. When talking about Tyler, Logan reports "...He is obsessive about the band, and its music. He pushes them for perfection."

Yesterday, Aerosmith frontman, and 'American Idol,' judge Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem before the AFC championship game in Foxborough, Mass. Sunday. The game featured the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots.

Tyler sang the anthem in traditional Aerosmith style -- complete with a raspy voice, bluesy swagger and a hard rocker yell. During his acappella performance, Tyler wore a sequined Patriots scarf.

After his version of the 'Star-Spangled Banner' was complete, social media sites lit up and "Steven Tyler" was quickly trending on Twitter. The commentary wasn't pretty and most accused Tyler of an awful performance. Many people drew 'American Idol' comparisons and tweeted that Tyler "wouldn't get a golden ticket to Hollywood" with his performance. Journalists criticized Tyler too including FOXSports columnist Jason Whitlock who Tweeted "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t*tty."

When Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem before the May 2001 Indianapolis 500, he changed the words which caused a public outcry. This led Tyler to issue a public apology.

Check out Tyler's performance below. You be the judge: good or bad?
