Almost a year ago today, we lost one of the strongest, most original voices in music. Amy Winehouse passed away in July of 2011, and there's still a chasm in the music world that has yet to be filled.

Her father, Mitch Winehouse, has been attempting to deal with the loss as best he can. Over the past year, he has had fingers pointed at him over Winehouse's death; the media, the public and even some people in the music industry believe he's partially accountable for her passing. In response to her untimely death, and as a kind of coping mechanism, Mitch Winehouse has written and published a book, titled Amy: My Daughter.

In it, he explores Amy's life from birth to death, revealing little-known details, such as her uncanny ability to understand complex math, her deep relationship with her grandmother, and her tumultuous love affair with Blake Fielder-Civil. He also seeks to uncover Amy's true life story, rather than have people piece together incorrect factoids from tabloid articles or celebrity gossip.

Of all the genres of music that exist in the world, heavy metal probably receives the least credit. It's controversial, for sure, and aside from rap, it's the only other music that has an unfair, biased connotation to it. People think "metal" and they think of long, hair-sprayed hair, or ridiculous glam performances from the '80s. The truth is, metal is a wide, expansive genre with several different subgenres -- including, but definitely not limited to, Norwegian black metal, nu metal and thrash metal.

Canadian metalheads Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn are the uncontested historians of metal. Their debut metal feature, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, was released in 2005 to amazing reception, and since then they've been creating more documentaries for the likes of Rush and Iron Maiden. Their latest, Metal Evolution, is an 11-episode collection of historical and expository vignettes, focusing on how metal has grown into its own distinct genre.

Spinner's friends at Moviefone met up with Dunn and McFadyen to discuss their own personal fascinations with metal, and how, as the music evolves, it'll live on for generations to come.

Steven Van Zandt: Musician Applauds Jennifer Hudson's Whitney Houston Tribute

So apparently some fans haven't been very kind about Jennifer Hudson's musical tribute to Whitney Houston at the Grammy Awards, when she sang the iconic 'I Will Always Love You.'
Despite almost no notice and an incredible amount of pressure and emotion, some fans and critics are chastising the singer, saying she should have performed the song in its entirety. Hudson sang a condensed version, and added a "We love you" to the end.

Steven Van Zandt, 'Sopranos' actor and well-known guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, weighed in on her performance while doing press for his Netflix TV show 'Lilyhammer.' Van Zandt was at the Grammys and saw the performance firsthand.

"People don't realize when you sing, and you're singing something emotional -- and this has happened to me -- if you sing the right sequence of notes, you involuntarily cry, just from the combination of notes, and your throat closes up," he told Spinner.
