The Rural Alberta Advantage are in good spirits these days. In fact, frontman Nils Edenloff describes his current state of mind as "wow, exclamation point, star star!" And he has ample reason to be so elated: He and his bandmates singer-keyboardist Amy Cole and drummer Paul Banwatt (of Woodhands fame) are in the running for a pair of Junos Sunday night in Ottawa.

"Originally, they were telling us that we could present a category [at the nomination press conference] but then they took that away from us and we were like, 'Oh, what if they just forgot to uninvited us,'" says Banwatt, who is also Spinner's special Juno correspondent this weekend.

Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland of Sloan aren't too interested in winning another Juno. Their longtime band are up in the Best Rock Album category for The Double Cross but the guys are pretty blase about it. So are the Canadian indie rock veterans too cool for award season? Nope, they're just design snobs.

"Junos now are horrible!" Pentland tells Spinner. "You don't want to win one, aesthetically."

"Unless they go back to the old design," jokes Ferguson. "Then we'll consider accepting one."

Blue Rodeo will finally get their due as one of Canada's most iconic rock bands when they're ceremoniously inducted into Canada's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the Juno Awards this Sunday (April 1). Many expected this day to come a lot sooner since Jim Cuddy and crew have long since proved themselves as rock titans in their native land. Interestingly enough, Cuddy, who co-founded the group in 1984, claims that had this prestigious honour come at another time, Blue Rodeo wouldn't have known what to make of it.

"I think it really depends on the psychological temperature of the band," he tells Spinner.

Anyone who's ever had to endure the graveyard shift knows there's nothing enviable about working into the wee hours. Either you're serving dodgy customers and chugging Red Bulls to keep awake or else stuck solo holding down the eerily silence fort. Yet somehow Montreal's Sam Roberts Band make this grueling shift work almost sound romantic with talk of moonlight kisses and morning mist on this track from their latest album, 'Collider.'

'Graveyard Shift' certainly isn't a ringing endorsement for clocking in at the midnight hour but it will make you ponder the plight of the late-night worker. Check out this exclusive video for the tune, which the band, who are currently touring across Eastern Canada, recorded at The Hotel2Tango, a 24-track analogue recording studio in their hometown.

"What you see and hear was recorded live off the floor," frontman Sam Roberts tells Spinner. "Once again, thanks to Howard Billerman and Dave Pawsey for helping us put this together."

Fiona Apple last released an album in 2005 so she's had a long time to come up with a title for the followup. Maybe too long.

The singer has revealed her long-awaited new record, reportedly due out this June, will be called 'The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do'

...and breathe.

The absurdly lengthy title barely holds a candle to her sophomore release, 'When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king/What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight/And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring/There's no body to batter when your mind is your might/So when you go solo, you hold your own hand/And remember that depth is the greatest of heights/And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land/ And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right,' which is even more absurdly ranked No. 2 by the Guinness World Records for longest album title behind Cumbawaumba's 'The Boy Bands Have Won...' -- but it's still a mega-mouthful (as was this sentence).

Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz told Billboard.com, "My understanding is they want to avoid a media circus and... the family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private.
Today's a good day for Pink Floyd fans. Timed to the release of the band's 'Immersion' box set and 'Experience' edition of 'The Wall,' an hour-long Pink Floyd retrospective -- which includes rare film footage, live performances and cool trivia -- is online for the next 24 hours.

'A Pink Floyd Miscellany: 1967-2005' kicks off with footage from their 'Arnold Layne' video and carries through the various PF eras. The film, which you can watch below, went online at noon ET so don't snooze, the clock is ticking down.

'Immersion' and 'Experience' are the final installments of the recent 'Why Pink Floyd?' re-issues and extended releases. The box set consists of 7-discs featuring a DVD with tour clips from the band's 1980 tour as well as a 'Behind The Wall' doc and CDs of excerpts from Roger Waters' original demos, among other goodies. Both new releases include a rare recording of 'Another Brick in the Wall Part 1,' too.

Canada Day long weekend is a time for Canucks to kick back and enjoy the finer things in the Great White North. So after sipping on Molson beer, boasting about free health care and playing some street hockey, talk often turns to Canada's musical pride and joy, the Tragically Hip.

And this year, folks can do more than fawn over the longtime rockers, the band -- who were just honoured with the creation of Tragically Hip Way in their hometown of Kingston, ON -- are playing two back-to-back Ontario festival gigs June 30 and July 1, at Niagara-on-the-Lake and Burl's Creek respectively.
Jack White and Lindsay Lohan? Now that's a pairing you'd never expect. Bruce Springsteen fans have a couple more weeks to go before the American rocker's 'Wrecking Ball' album drops next month. But thankfully Springsteen groupies won't have to listen to the first single 'We Take Care of Our Own' on repeat anymore -- now there's 'Easy Money' to throw into the rotation.
Courtesy of Consequence of Sound -- who are debuting new tracks from The Boss leading up the March 5/6 release date -- you can listen to the disc's second track, an Irish folk-inspired number that will have you stomping along.

The 11-song record -- the 17th studio album from the legend -- was produced by Ron Aniello and features guitarist Tom Morello as well as members of the E Street Band, including the late Clarence Clemons on 'Land of Hope and Dreams.'

Adele was the belle of the ball at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, so it's no shocker that the singer snagged Record of the Year for 'Rolling in the Deep' and Album of Year for '21.' The can-do-no-wrong Brit climbed the stage steps again, this time chocking back tears of joy.

"Oh, thank you, thank you," she said at the start of her Album acceptance speech. She then hugged her entourage and sent a message to her mom: "Your girl did good! Mom, I love you and I'm so sorry you're not here.

"A big thank you to Rick Rubin who taught me about quality control," Adele continued. "This record is inspired by something really normal, everyone's been through it, just a rubbish relationship. It's been the most life-changing year."

But it wasn't all sentimental. Midway though her speech, Adele stopped herself and said "Oh, I've got a big of snot!" before wiping her nose, much to the delight of the crowd.

This week Canadian rapper Shad got a taste of what Polaris Prize jurors went through when debating the merits of his Juno Award-winning album when 'TSOL' went head-to-head with 10 other Canadian albums back in 2010.

"It does give a little bit of insight as to what happens in the Polaris backroom," Shad tells Spinner following his judging gig on Canada Reads 2012, CBC's annual book competition which crowned his pick, Carmen Aguirre's memoir 'Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter,' the winning title earlier Thursday.

"I've just never understood the game of strategy -- I wasn't in cahoots with anyone," he says of the roundtable discussion that pitted him against "experts" such as supermodel Stacey McKenzie and actor Alan Thicke. "It's fun to discuss the merits of books so that part of it I really like, but I don't understand the 'Survivor'-style voting. I'm the most anti-'Survivor' person."

Clavicyclette. Say it three times fast if you can. Most folks might get a little tongue tied but Montreal singer and multi-instrumentalist Little Scream has it down pat after using the fantastical piano-bicycle in her new video for 'Boatman (Live With The Clavicyclette).'

"My friend Ian had come across the clavicyclette, made by a great piano man in Montreal named Spike Taylor," Little Scream, aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer, tells Spinner. "It's like a dep bike that people use to deliver groceries from corner stores [called Depanneurs in Quebec] but with a piano on the front of it instead of a basket."

Though she had "zero budget" to work with, Little Scream still managed to pull together a choir and the crazy bike for the video shoot. It was a bonus, of course, that she didn't need some flashy (and expensive) studio set to bring to life the track from her Polaris Prize-longlisted album, 'The Golden Record.'

New York indie darlings Cults were quick on the draw here, too -- though they opted for an older track from the legendary singer-songwriter's expansive catalogue.
Here at Spinner, we feel like we've done a pretty good job of documenting the whole Lana Del Rey debacle (even asking, can artifice survive in the age of Adele?). But we've been one-upped by Taiwan's Next Media Animation studio.

No amount of jazzy alliteration or hilarious hyperbole can compare to their kooky CGI Lizzie Grant news story.

Yes, watch Lana Del Rey's fame-bubble burst into a flames as the singer plunges back to earth complete with wacky sound effects. Follow our poor little indie star as she morphs -- complete with magical chimes and smoke! -- into a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" on the 'SNL' stage as music industry suits snooze (check out those ZZZZZs!) in their plush studio seats.
