After a seven-year break between studio albums, the Wallflowers would like to reintroduce themselves. You remember the singer, of course -- he's got the look, voice and way with words that never quite let you forget his pedigree -- but now more than ever, this California quintet isn't simply a vehicle for Jakob Dylan's songwriting. Hence "Reboot the Mission," the debut single from the group's sixth album, Glad All Over, out today (Oct. 9).

"Welcome Jack, the new drummer," Dylan sings, getting everyone up to speed. "He jammed with the mighty Joe Strummer."

He's talking about recent addition Jack Irons, a former member of Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers who did, indeed, back the iconic Clash frontman on a 1989 solo album. As if scanning the studio, Dylan then moves on to his keyboardist, bass player, lead guitarist and producer: "I see Rami [Jaffee], Greg [Richling] and Stuart [Mathis]/ I have to say, Jay [Joyce], we've had it coming."

Dylan is back with the old gang after Seeing Things (2008) and Women & Country (2010), both well-received solo efforts that saw him unplugging his guitar and delving further into the Americana influences that have always been present in his music. It sucks to be ahead of your time. These days, everyone's all up on Hologram Tupac's jock, talking him up like he's the greatest concert innovation since the fog machine, but if technology had evolved a little faster, Devo would get the credit for being 3D OGs.

"That was one of our earliest thoughts," singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and noted film and commercial composer Mark Mothersbaugh tells Spinner. "We saw holograms back in 1970, and we were certain by '71, '72, '73, there would be such things as animated holograms. That was all part of the original concept."

Retro-leaning Irish songstress Imelda May has given birth to her first child, Contact Music reports. The singer and her husband, Darrel Higham, welcomed Violet Kathleen Higham on Thursday, Aug. 23, and they quickly took to Facebook to announce their "beautiful baby daughter."

May, who's known for her pin-up-girl fashion sense and rockabilly-flavored recordings, has released three albums, the most recent of which, Mayhem, arrived in 2010. If Barack Obama wins a second term in office, don't expect the Killers to play the inauguration. In a new interview with NME, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. reveals that he accidentally groped First Lady Michelle Obama during a trip to the White House.

The unintentional goosing occurred in July 2010, when the Killers performed for the president and his wife as part of the nation's Fourth of July celebrations. What, if anything, is so funny about Jakob Dylan's "(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," the penultimate song in an excellent Wallflowers performance Tuesday night (July 24) at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City?

It's a Russian doll of rock 'n' roll meaning, as Dylan sings it in the earnest, heart-safety-pinned-to-sleeve punk style of Elvis Costello, who may have borrowed from the Clash -- one of Jakob's favorite bands -- for his definitive 1978 version. At the same time, Dylan is undoubtedly familiar with Nick Lowe's original, a semi-sincere send-up of the '60s idealism that Jakob's father once embodied, semi-sincerely.

There's danger in reading too much into it, as Dylan, very much to his credit, doesn't aim to be his dad. Bob Dylan will release his 35th studio album, Tempest, on Sept. 11, Columbia Records has announced. The 10-song collection of all-new, all-original tunes arrives a full 50 years -- plus a few months -- after Dylan's self-titled debut.

As the NME reports, Dylan produced Tempest himself, working as he often does under the pseudonym Jack Frost. Discounting his 2009 holiday set, Christmas From the Heart, the folk-rock legend has been on something of a late-career tear, and his last four albums -- Time Out of Mind, "Love and Theft," Modern Times and Together Through Life -- have ranked among his finest.

The California Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence of John Riccardi, the man convicted in 1994 of murdering Connie Hopkins Navarro, mother of Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, more than a decade earlier. According to LAist.com, the court has ruled that Riccardi was denied a fair trial, since the judge presiding over the case erroneously excused one of the potential jurors.

Riccardi, now 76 years old and one of the oldest men on death row in California, was convicted of killing both Connie Navarro and her best friend, Susan Marshall Jory. Although the murders took place in 1983, he wasn't arrested until 1991, after Navarro appeared on "America's Most Wanted." Another weekend, another set of stabbings at a Swedish House Mafia show. As the NME reports, three men were stabbed on Saturday (July 14) outside of the DJ collective's concert at the Milton Keynes Bowl in England. The incident comes one week after a similar attack left nine people injured in Dublin.

According to police in Thames Valley, one victim, a 23-year-old male, is being treated at Milton Keynes General Hospital for a punctured lung. Another victim, age 24, suffered cuts to his head and arm but has been discharged from the hospital. A 19-year-old woman found unconscious at the Vans Warped Tour in Toronto earlier today has died, according to CBC News.

Police confirm the victim was discovered this afternoon near the stage at the Molson Amphitheater, scene of the daylong punk festival. After unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate the young woman at the venue, she was rushed to the hospital and later declared dead, CBC reports.

If organizers of the 4Knots Music Festival needed proof they'd put together a killer lineup for this year's show, they definitely got it yesterday.

Around 4PM, a three-alarm fire broke out beneath Pier 17 at New York City's South Street Seaport, home of the all-day indie-rock event, and as black smoke filled the sky and firefighters swarmed the area, bringing the concert to a temporarily halt, fans stayed put, risking life and limb to see headliners Hospitality, Crocodiles, the Drums and Archers of Loaf.

In London, rules are rules and curfews are curfews, even when Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney are together onstage in Hyde Park, bashing out Beatles classics and blowing the minds of thousands of people.

According to CNN, organizers of the Hard Rock Calling festival pulled the plug last night on Springsteen, who had brought McCartney out as a surprise guest during his encore. Backed by the E Street Band and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, the duo performed "I Saw Her Standing There" before making it most of the way through an epic "Twist and Shout."

They would have kept going, but at 10:40, the power cut out, leaving the Boss and Macca to shrug and leave the stage. Dennis Flemion, drummer for Milwaukee underground rock legends the Frogs, has been missing since Saturday and is presumed dead, according to Pitchfork. The 57-year-old rocker reportedly disappeared after going for a swim in a Racine County, Wisc., lake, and as of last night, divers were said to be searching for his body.

Formed in 1980 by Dennis and his brother Jimmy, the Frogs were famous for their outlandish stage gear and envelope-pushing lyrics. While the duo never achieved major commercial success, they were beloved by many '90s alt-rock artists, among them Billy Corgan, who took to Twitter yesterday to salute the apparently deceased rocker.

"I'm devastated by the loss of my friend Dennis Flemion," he tweeted. "Words can't explain the sorrow. A tragic loss. Please pray for his family."

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with stabbing four people during a Swedish House Mafia show in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday night, the NME reports. The four victims -- three of whom were seriously injured -- were among nine concertgoers injured, and five additional fans were apparently wounded in a fight involving knives and broken bottles.

"Ticket holders entering the site were subject to a search permissible by law," said Denis Desmond of MCD, the promotion company behind the Phoenix Park show. When Lily Allen took the stage last weekend in Manchester, England, for a surprise performance with Professor Green, she rocked a baggy Stone Roses T-shirt. This made sense, since the reunited British rockers were headlining the show, but she may have had another reason for the oversize wardrobe: She's pregnant.

According to The Mirror, Allen and her husband, Sam Cooper, are expecting their second child in December. The British pop star gave birth to daughter Ethel Mary in November, and while she's yet to confirm the news, she's reportedly been telling friends and family.

As if seeing the reunited Stone Roses rock their hometown of Manchester, England, weren't enough, fans on hand last night in Heaton Park witnessed the surprise return of Lily Allen, who performed with rapper Professor Green, the NME reports. Allen announced her retirement from music in 2009, but earlier this year, the British singer revealed she's working on new music.

If you're going to make a political statement, why not do it when you've got the ears of 70,000 people? Last night (June 29), Contact Music reports, as the Stone Roses took the stage in Manchester, England, for the first of three hotly anticipated hometown reunion shows, singer Ian Brown dissed the British royal family, telling fans in no uncertain terms what he thinks of the queen's recent Diamond Jubilee.

Having already logged studio time with buddy Keith Richards, Jack White would be a natural to produce the next Rolling Stones album, should the rock legends celebrate their 50th anniversary by heading back into the studio. Keef evidently agrees, and in a recent interview with -- who else? -- Rolling Stone, he talked up a possible collaboration.

"That's always a possibility," Richards told the magazine, adding that the band plans to meet in July to discuss its future plans. "The door is wide open."

Swedish House Mafia are calling it a day, at least in terms of touring, the trio have announced via their website.

"Today we want to share with you that the tour we are about to go on will be our last," reads the official statement. "We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved."

At present, Swedish House Mafia's tour schedule includes only three dates, all of which are in Europe, but the group plans to announce the "final leg of this journey" in August.
