It opens a window to the past and the present of a relationship, characters and images dictating the emotions felt. It's the memory versus the current reality in its most vulnerable. Highlight: "'Bottom of the River' has always had mysterious origins," singer Eric Holljes tells Spinner. "The chorus of the song came to me in a dream, which was a rare and strange experience. I don't recall the dream, but I do remember rushing to my phone in a haze at 4AM to record it and in the morning I played it for my brother, Ian, who wrote the verses in a matter of hours. It's really uncommon for a song to come that quickly when we're writing. It felt as if it wanted to be written.

It's a whispered and intimate song, about something just out of sight, out of mind -- a memory you can't quite put your finger on -- and their non-linear, associative ramble suits it perfectly. The video briefly passes a couple of representative touches, a family recipe on a fantastical postcard from one grandfather to another, a 1930s photograph of a beloved teacher, but basically the picture unfolds in a dreamlike way from its start with the compass, and old souvenir that Nina and Peter liked and had tucked away in their apartment."

Highlight: "We made this video as a short film, a small narrative that we created to show the idea of the song, about feeling disconnected from one's true self," McCrackin tells Spinner. "Being incomplete, unable to see the part of you that is already free, and searching to fill the void. The director, Raven, is a very talented friend of mine, and it came together very last minute, when he happened to mention that he was in California with his gear. He loved the song, so he came to my house and we got an idea, got very focused and shot it with no budget and no crew, in less than two nights. I love how it it turned out, simple yet stylized, with things hidden within it."
