I said I might never go back to Coachella. I'd done it already. It felt like someone else's high school reunion.

Back in Los Angeles, there was a lot going on. I saw James Blake play for 100 people in a recording studio. It wasn't as good as his festival set. An intimate James Blake show is perhaps a little too intimate.

I saw Phoenix, Os Mutantes and Nick Cave play private shows, Lee Fields play to a packed house. I started thinking about the festival. It started out as a joke. Yesterday (April 19), we interviewed a bunch of Coachella's DJs about their week off between festival appearances. Despite the various hotel pools, mountains and deserts in the immediate vicinity, most of of the artists we polled, including Paul Oakenfold, Eric Prydz and Paul Kalkbrenner, returned to their studios, toured or played their usual Vegas residencies.

The answers we received were pretty tame, so we called up a bunch of bands -- Japandroids, DIIV, JEFF the Brotherhood and Wild Nothing -- and heard some decidedly more exciting occounts.

"The last few days we just spent going on a spirit journey in the desert," JEFF the Brotherhood guitarist/vocalist Jake Orrall told us. "We took two days to just go to Joshua Tree and just mellow out, climb on some rocks and shit. [Touring Guitarist] Karl started a cult in Joshua Tree. All these fine young ladies. It was pretty wild. I just kind of watched from the distance. Last year, Coachella added a second weekend, offering fans the opportunity to attend twice, organizers to charge twice, and artists up to a week off in the desert, golfing, meditating, visiting hallucinogen-friendly destination spots like Joshua Tree, or whatever else they deem fit.

James Blake followed his packed-out, bass-heavy set at Coachella Sunday with an intimate performance at Bob Clearmountain's Berkeley Street Studio in Santa Monica last night (April 15).

There were perhaps one hundred people standing quietly in the studio as the 24-year-old British singer/producer took the stage, unassuming in his grey sweater, bashful and lanky, much like his two band mates.

Without a word, they launched into the brooding title track from Blake's recently released sophomore LP, Overgrown. I had a great time at Coachella this year, but I think it may be my last.

I saw Blur, Nick Cave, Tame Impala, James Blake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Richie Hawtin play jaw-dropping sets. I caught a surprise appearance by R. Kelly instead of Daft Punk. I saw Wu-Tang reunite to share a lineup with the Stone Roses, New Order and OMD.

People get nostalgic over Coachella. They get to road trip, smoke, rave, drink Jagermeister in a tent in the middle of the day, glow in the dark, dress like no one's looking, watch a bunch of dads play guitars, and say things like "Who the fuck are the Stone Roses?"

It may also be their first music festival, and the first time they've sat around with their best friends and done MDMA, which paints the memory with a sentimental gloss. I've seen people with "Coachella" as their surname on Facebook, year-round.

"I can see the Ferris Wheel! I can see the Ferris wheel, I love you!" is the first thing I overhear walking onto the grounds this year.

Parisian producer Breakbot, born Thibaut Berland, specializes in '70s and '80's-inspired disco jams which owe as much to Quincy Jones-era Michael Jackson and Daft Punk's Discovery as they do to soft rock bands like Chicago and Player.

On Fool Again, the rock drummer and long time house music enthusiast's diverse musical tastes are evident; the album's lush soundscapes conjure images of various locales, both foreign and familiar, breezy and nostalgic.

French DJ quartet C2C are kicking off their first U.S. tour this week, and in celebration, we're psyched to offer our readers the chance to win a Numark turntable!

C2C kick off their 10-date run tonight at Irving Plaza in NYC, and continue around North America for the next two weeks, concluding with their performance at Coachella on April 19.

Electric Daisy Carnival NY has announced its second annual festival lineup, which features everyone from 12th Planet, Adam F and Afrojack to Calvin Harris, Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, La Roux, Loco Dice, Mark Knight, Richie Hawtin, Steve Angello, The Bloody Beetroots and more. Disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder appears in the latest music doc from The Creators Project, discussing the early days of dance music and the significance of Daft Punk's forthcoming album, Random Access Memories.

The eight minute doc delves into the 72-year-old Donna Summer producer's introduction to the Moog synthesizer, club music, and why dance is "now the pop of the world."
