John Doe Balances Punk and Country With X and the Sadies

Several years ago musician John Doe toured with Wilco, who were taking fans' requests of what songs the group should perform onstage through their Website. That gave Doe an idea of doing something similar for his own band, X. So for the Los Angeles punk group's current 'Total Request Live' tour, X fans have the opportunity to vote for their favorite X songs for the band to play in their city. "It's fun," Doe, 56, tells Spinner about the experience. "It's a little bit more work but I have made so many set lists [that] it's not difficult."

On the group's official site, xtheband.com, fans can pick their five favorite X tunes from a list of approximately 40 songs prior to the group arriving at a tour stop. So far, it's led to some interesting picks. "'The Have Nots' was the biggest surprise," Doe says. "Even when we wrote it and released it, we didn't play it that much. Another big surprise was 'Under the Big Black Sun.' We never played that one very much either. It's also a little surprising that each night is very different."

Eels Won't Tour Behind 'Hombre Lobo' Just Yet

WIth a new album, 'Hombre Lobo', now on shelves, one would expect that the Eels would be on the eve of a world tour to rally behind it. Unless, of course, one knows the Eels. Leading man Mark Oliver Everett (aka. "E") says he thinks the whole idea of touring just to promote an album seems a little bit, um, off-base.

"I'm not going to disrespect the audience by going out there and doing something that my heart's not into," E tells Spinner. "And it's not into it right now. But that could change at any moment." Put that way, well, we don't want you out on the road either, E.

Adele Headlines Hollywood Bowl After Etta James Cancels

Adele has two Grammys and a Brit Award under belt, despite only having released one album -- the multi-platinum, chart-topping '19.' And when it came time to headline the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night with Etta James, well, she was strong enough to go it alone in front of the sold-out crowd after James canceled last-minute due to an unspecified illness. (Chaka Khan served as James' last-minute replacement.)

From the moment she stepped onto the Bowl's stage, and launched her dynamic voice into 'Crazy For You,' Adele's anxiousness was palpable. "I feel like Beyonce or something. There are so many of you!" she said after first taking off her heels to feel more comfortable, and then describing the site in front of her as "the biggest crowd ever." "I'm really, really nervous," she exclaimed.

Blur Reunion Brings Glastonbury to Fitting Finale

On any other Glastonbury, it would have been the defining gig.

Blur were the Britpop era's poster boys, figureheads of a scene they quickly grew to despise, and which they left behind with a series of ever more adventurous albums.

But Blur rode out their wildest years only to dissolve when they were making their most inventive music, 2002's 'Think Tank'; singer Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon's previously close friendship combusted. It's taken this long for the rifts to heal, and it is Glastonbury they chose to give those repairs a public inspection.

Springsteen may have stolen their thunder, but Blur -- playing their first major show with their original line-up since the band went in to hiatus in 2000 -- don't take it lying down.

Art Brut Give Kings of Leon, Killers a Tongue-Lashing at Glastonbury

Anyone thinking of betting their heard-earned on Art Brut supporting the Killers or Kings of Leon anytime soon, please read on. If we can think of one band who won't be asked to open for either, thanks to this weekend, it's Art Brut.

During Art Brut's Other Stage set, singer Eddie Argos sang the lines, "This sex is on fire" and "Are we human? Or are we dancer?" during the song 'Slap Dash' in a less-than-enthusiastic tone.

"What does it mean? What does any of it f---ing mean?" he asked the crowd, earning a cheer, but little chance of a Christmas card from the Followill clan or the Family Flowers.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Blitz' a Sunny Glastonbury Sunday

"My heart stopped for a second. It was crazy. There were so many people," the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner told Spinner after coming off stage.

Having come up with 'It's Blitz,' an album some would argue is the best of the year so far, there were plenty of people wanting to see if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs might just be festival legends in the making too.

They're a band who don't look they've spent that much time in rural environments. Karen O's garments of choice, for instance, rarely look capable of keeping out the worst of the elements.
