2012 has already been a whirlwind for Sharon Van Etten. Her recent record 'Tramp,' produced by the National's guitarist Aaron Dessner, shows the edgier side of the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter. Written while she was living an itinerant tramp-like lifestyle -- not the slutty kind, naturally -- the songs reflect Van Etten's maturation and increasing comfort with herself, her voice and her personality.
During the week of the album's release, Van Etten and her band stopped by Spinner's New York studios for a special acoustic session and interview on The Interface.
"American Songwriter compared me to the guy from Alice in Chains covering an Arcade Fire song. I was like, [sarcastically] "OK, Alice in Chains. I get that entirely." At least it's a '90s reference."

It is really refreshing to see such feeling, originality and muscial talent in such a short song list. I love every song, The instruments blend with the voices, the voices speak to the heart and they both fit together like a smooth tasting wine and a beautiful meal. Don't try too hard what you are doing is working, it feels and sounds good I could lie back in a chair for hours on a beach, on a porch at a lodge, in front of a fire place listening to your music and feel good to be alive. Love your backup singer too, she is your "sister singer".
