'Zaireeka' Requires Four Stereos to Play
Warner
Zaireeka, the Lips' 1997 album, was actually a four-album box set with special instructions. Listeners were supposed to play the four discs in four separate stereo systems simultaneously and let the resulting super-stereo magic mess with their minds.
The band would stage similarly spirited real world concerts known as the Parking Lot Experiments (where Lips fans would show up in parking lots and Coyne would give everyone cassettes to play simultaneously on their car stereos) and the Boombox Experiments (where the band would give fans at their shows boomboxes to play simultaneously).
