Elliott Smith 'From a Basement on the Hill'
Anti-
Released in October 2004, From a Basement on the Hill is the sixth and final album from indie rock's master of melancholy, Elliott Smith. Smith was working on the record at the time of his death (at age 34 from two fatal stab wounds, although it's still unclear whether or not they were self-inflicted), and his family hired former producer Rob Schnapf and ex-girlfriend Joanna Bolme to sift through the recordings and assemble a 15-track album. While not Smith's most affecting, From a Basement on the Hill is appropriately raw, dissonant and beautiful.
