Joy Division 'Closer'
Factory
In May, 1980, on the eve of Joy Division's inaugural North American tour, frontman Ian Curtis -- who battled epilepsy and depression -- hanged himself at the age of 23. Closer, the second and final album by the pioneering British post-punk band, was released two months later. The record is a markedly darker effort than Joy Division's debut, Unknown Pleasures, and is roundly considered the young band's finest work.
