Having joined TV on the Radio in 2005, Smith played bass and other instruments on the pivotal albums 'Return to Cookie Mountain,' 'Dear Science' and 'Nine Types of Light.' During his tenure, the Brooklyn alt-rock crew found its funky side, fleshing out its stark early sound without sacrificing its experimental leanings. He died in April, just one month after the band's surprise announcement that he was battling lung cancer.
