Best known for the 1971 proto-rap anthem 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,' this poet, author and musician left his mark on countless artists and social activists. His death came a year after he released his thirteenth and final studio album, 'I'm New Here,' which introduced the self-professed "interpreter of the black experience" to a new generation.
