The self-styled "Overweight Lover" helped take hip-hop to the Top 40, scoring a number of R&B-inflected hits in the late '80s and early '90s. Whether kicking it with the Jacksons -- he rapped on tracks by both Michael and Janet -- or appearing in films and on television shows, the multi-talented rhymer was all smoothness and charisma.
