What's left to say about Stipe, Mills, Buck and Berry, the four Southern weirdos who invented indie rock as we know it? R.E.M. were a band we grew up on and figured we'd grow old with. Alas, we'll never know if the recent returns to form 'Accelerate' and 'Collapse Into Now' would have led to a fruitful third act. Instead, we're left with a 36-song retrospective, the definitive document of a group that, whether goofy ('Shiny Happy People,' 'Stand') or super serious ('Everybody Hurts'), treated rock music like a matter of great importance.
