The official announcement came this year, but Rilo's demise seemed imminent since 2007, when they released the album that would be their last. More adventurous than 'More Adventurous,' its 2004 predecessor, 'Under the Black Light' struck critics as glossy and uneven, especially compared to singer Jenny Lewis' excellent solo debut from a year earlier. 'Black Light' was a departure, but the unfairly dissed disc retains much of what made Rilo one of the better indie bands to emerge during the 'O.C.' era.
