Paranoid apocalypse-minded trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack married hip-hop beats with R&B vocals and subtle raps to create something dark and unique. The Weeknd -- singer Abel Tesfaye assisted by veteran producers Doc McKinney and Illangelo -- head to the clubs not to make party jams, but instead focus on the bleak comedown soul of when the evening goes bad. They’re basically just as freaked out, except Massive Attack are worried about global conspiracy and the Weeknd’s probably in a bad mood from mixing drugs.
DNA Evidence: Tracks like Massive Attack’s 'Daydreaming' and the Weeknd’s 'Initiation' may have a trippy groove, but there’s something dark lurking in them woods.
