Back to 12 Great Anti-Royalty Songs For the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Sex Pistols "God Save the Queen"
Evening Standard, Hulton Archive
The Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" -- released in 1977 to mark the Queen's silver jubilee -- was considered so scandalous the BBC banned the song. This subsequently made it irresistible to the youth who then treated it as a rallying cry for the punk movement. Needless to say, it was just re-released to snag some more filthy lucre from its savaging of the Queen's "fascist regime."
