In 2010, English novelist Nick Hornby teamed with musician Ben Folds to produce the record 'Lonely Avenue.'
Hornby -- whose best-known novel, 'High Fidelity,' is about a loveable loser that works in a record shop -- contributed lyrics while Folds wrote melodies, worked out arrangements and performed the songs with his band.
That the record is really quite good underscores Fold's uncanny ability to elicit alluring performances from strange collaborations. Even 'Has Been,' his 2004 project with William Shatner, is entirely listenable.
