Your band name is Cassettes Won't Listen. What's that all about?
Jason Drake: "I used to call people 'cassettes.' I'd use it to refer to people who didn't think for themselves, who would be 'played' by their surroundings, such as believing whatever was on the Top 40 radio was good music or everything said on the nightly news was legit. These types of people who were being force-fed what to believe, how to act, what was right and wrong, etc., were all cassettes in my mind. These were the types of people who I didn't think would listen to my music."
What does it feel like to be amongst the lonely few who still romanticizes the cassette in an era where most people who still care about them are people who own crappy cars made before 1990?
"I enjoy the fact that the cassette makes it pretty difficult to skip around an album. Rewinding or fast-forwarding is such a pain in the ass so it's easier to just sit back and listen to the album the way the artist intended. I'm still a fan of ingesting an album as it's meant to be experienced, so the cassette is OK in my book. I'd actually prefer to listen to an album on vinyl but the name Vinyl Won't Listen is s----y."
So what does a cassette that won't listen actually sound like?
