Your band's name is Unicycle Loves You. What's that all about?
Jim Carroll: "It's not as exciting as you might think. I had been recording all these years as Unicycle. I would do all the instruments so that was a name, I hadn't heard anyone called that before. But we formed a band and kind of wanted to take this 'Jesus loves you,' 'Jefferson Airplane loves you,' just all those types of gimmicks and turn it into a band name. We're really into pop art and we thought it was a good pop art reference so we stuck a Loves You on when we added more members."
Are you actually familiar with unicycling at all?
"Unfortunately not. We almost had a unicyclist on stage once just to do it because everyone wants there to be some sort of connection. We have a friend that's a clown. And every time we come to New York -- he lives in New York -- he's on tour doing something else. Someday we'll have our friend ride a unicycle."
So at the very least we can expect a clown at some point?
"Well, yeah, he can do so many things. He might be juggling fire on the unicycle... I'm not sure."
So what do unicycles in love actually sound like?
"It's a pop explosion."
