Metric's Independence

Emily Haines' fiery band of synth-rockers are often hipster-accused of being too mainstream, but there really isn't a more indie band out there. After beginning their career with a series of label SNAFUs, Metric has taken ever-increasing control over their own music to the point of self-releasing their current hit album Synthetica, which still managed to hit number two in Canada and number 12 in the U.S. We love their music, but maybe Metric's groundbreaking business model may wind up their greatest legacy.
