Tim McGraw grew up believing his stepfather was his biological father until he discovered his birth certificate at age 11. It was then that he learned his dad was actually Tug McGraw, who was a well-known pitcher for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Father and son met soon after, but the elder McGraw denied he was Tim's father. Seven years later, he finally acknowledged the paternity and they remained close until Tug died in 2004.
