Singer-songwriter Tim Buckley died of an overdose in 1975, just months after meeting his 8-year-old son Jeff for the first time. After deciding to also pursue a career in music, the younger Buckley tried to distance himself from his father's legacy, but after years of obscurity, agreed to make his singing debut at a 1991 tribute concert for his dad. His fame grew over the next few years, with his debut album Grace being now-considered as a masterpiece. Even then, Jeff still derided some of his father's work and insisted that they were completely different people. Tragically, he drowned in 1997 during an impromptu swim in a Mississippi river. He was sober at the time of his death.
