Godspeed's Red Patch Support
Erik Leijon
The liner notes seem to suggest God's Pee were a past-tense version of the band. Quite the nickname. The red square was the symbol used by protesting students in Quebec, and the Plan Nord is the current plan by the province to develop (i.e. mine the shit out of) the sparsely populated, mineral-rich north. Unsurprisingly, Godspeed are not down with these plans. The "Montreal Right Now Forever" tag -- perhaps the winning slogan our fair city has long clamored for, proves the band were pretty onside with this summer's protests. And it could explain why the music is pretty peppy by their standards.
