The half-Jewish (on his father's side) Diamond Dave comes from a long line of doctors, but he decided to take after his counterculturally-inclined uncle Manny Roth, owner of the famous Cafe Wha?. Inspired by his uncle's dive bar, and the fellow musical Jews who played there like Bob Dylan and Lou Reed, Roth went on to rock 'n' roll fame in Van Halen.
