Back to Musicians Behind Days of the Week Songs

Saturday is a day of freedom. The weekend has kicked into high gear and there's still one more late night to get out any residual ya-yas. Hedley, Built to Spill, Mudmen, Fall Out Boy, the Carpenters and Yo La Tengo all have songs named after it. Ludacris adds some excitement with 'Saturday (Oooh! Ooooh!).' The evening hours get even more love with 'Saturday Night' tunes by Whigfield, the Bay City Rollers and U2. There are also plenty of variations on that theme, with the Spice Girls' 'Saturday Night Divas' and R&B duo Sam and Dave's 'Another Saturday Night.'
American country singer Brad Paisley has 'American Saturday Night,' while Canadian legend Stompin' Tom Connors documents boys getting stinko (way) north of the border in 'Sudbury Saturday Night.' But no one song tackles the rabble-rousing of a good weekend shenanigan quite like Elton John (pictured above) and his 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting).'
