A member of the pioneering female R&B group the Shirelles, Harris used to tell group mate Beverly Lee, "When I die, I want to go real quickly, and I want to go with my rock and roll shoes on." In 1982, shortly after coming off the stage at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta, Harris, 42, collapsed of a heart attack and died, still wearing her rock and roll shoes.
