In 1995, as Toronto-based rock band Big Sugar was performing during the KUNI Blues Blowout in Waterloo, Iowa, Morgan crumpled behind his drum set. While a doctor in the audience rushed to his aide, the 35-year-old could not be revived. It was later determined that he died of a rare heart condition called cardiomyopathy. Known to cause "sudden cardiac death," the ailment has claimed the lives of several basketball players, including college standout Hank Gathers and NBA players Reggie Lewis, Kevin Duckworth and Jason Collier.
