With music as challenging as Of Montreal's, you had to expect main man Kevin Barnes wouldn't make it easy for people to talk about his band without breaking some grammatical rules. After all, this is an artist who practically begs for controversy so we couldn't expect him to pick any old boring name for his band.

Barnes began Of Montreal in Athens, Georgia -- hometown of R.E.M. and the B-52s -- which is clearly a far cry from the French-speaking Canadian metropolis. But at least he has some personal connection to the city, as the band's name is a reference to a past lover from Montreal who once broke his heart.
