Russian Futurists
Upper Class Recordings
The Toronto-based pop project of Matthew Adam Hart may have a pretty high-minded name -- Russian futurism was an artistic movement that aimed to throw away tradition in favour of modernity -- but that doesn't mean he got all intellectual when he was trying to name his band.
Sure, the movement inspired him to use the moniker, but not because of any parallels with his sound or artistic vision. As he's explained, "It was just a name. I liked how it sounded phonetically." At least you don't need an art history major to bob your head to Hart's distinctive beats.
